hi all
my names tim and i have inherited a 02 tdr4 es auto
i have lurked on this forum and with all the info fixed the split expansion tank filters cleaned the egr air con re charge etc its running fine now but yesterday it started making a god awfull clattering from what i can best tell the inlet manifold area i first noticed it last night when on full lock moving off hope any pointers as to where to start looking would be welcome
thanks

hi mate it does it stationary as well starts about 20 seconds from start up i would not say it rises with revs if that makes sense but does disapear at certain rev range

fine on start up for about 20 seconds then something kicks in and the noise starts just tried it again

Have you re-connected the vacuum pipe to the EGR valve correctly ? If not, it could be the EGR solenoid

hi mate checked all that it sounds as it may be comeing from belt area i am stumped really cant really drive to my local indy lr place untill i know its not terminal thanks any way

are you sure it is the top of the engin and not the bottom as sound does travel check the crank pully di it from the wheel arch just lift the flap ,is there and metal swarf around the pully if so your pully has had its day there has been this discusion on here before about it try engin sounds like headge cutter

Check the ancillary belt carefully, they can start to fray and the bits slap of things causing odd noises

Thanks for your replies guys I got underneath and had a look at belt and pulleys I think its there there's a small one half way up sorry not looked it up on rave yet looks a bit suspect belt seems ok for the moment next question is can I drive it a couple of miles to the local Indy lr place .it does sound like a hedge cutter as well .

if it is the small one you need to take the big one of to get it off 24mm ringer on the self adjuster undo the adjuster first on the small belt first
