I think I've got a similar fault as I've found my fuel temperature sensors bare, touching occasionally and I suspect arching - can anyone confirm that will cause the same misfiring symptoms?

Hi, when finding oil in the ECU red plug, does the oil travel down the actual copper strands of the individual cables due to capillary action or does the oil move between the 7 cables within the loom. I have cleaned this out before and now thinking of making a small hole/slot in the side of the plug and the socket so any oil weeps out and not sucked into the body of the ECU.

Yes, that's how it happens.

That's all you'll gain eventually, once the oil reaches the plug at the head means that the injector loom is already weak and there are contact issues at the injectors too so you'll need a new one anyway and it became clear untill now that only genuine LR looms are reliable.
