hi folks.. been under thecar this after noon originally to check back box and noticed the tank craddle isnt looking to good ,,but not beyond repair theres a lot about this on lz but no ones mentions heavy duty fire glassing to build up a strong repair, surely several layers built up providing the bolt areas are solid should do the job ,,any thoughts

mine weren't looking too great either ..
gave the bottom plates a few coats of hammerite .. paint been holding up fine ..
the tubes had 1 ( or 2 ) splits in them .. maybe 1" long .. or so ..
filled them with a metal filler ( epoxy 2 mix type filler / glue for metal )
then coated the tubes with hammerite .. so far be ok ..

i've a new cradle to fit .. had it recoated ( powder coated ) with a thicker finish ..
original paint be a powder coat .. but sort of on the thin side
so the man at the p.coating place told me ..
also .. there be some holes at the end of each tube .. by the bolt holes ..
p.c.paint man said they would be to let 'gas' escape during the drying process
and i figure they'd also let in air and moisture during normal use ..
so i've plugged them holes up ..
aim to add a couple coats of hammerite in different colours ..
for a bit of extra protection against road debris 'n whatnot ..
diff. colors so i can see how the paint is wearing down ..
i.e. to see when a re-coat be desired ..

nearly 3 years on .. the original patched-up cradle shows no sign of weakening
'n paint be doing ok against rust ( although the plates topside be still vulnerable i guess )
cradle still be passing mot's ..
