Hi all. My 99 TD5 failed MOT due to front passenger wheel bearing being "dangerous". when i drive or spin the wheel there is no vibration or roughness or noise etc. when jacked up , i can move wheel top to bottom a little and see cv joint/driveshaft moving a little too. Anyone know if i can adjust hub bearing rather than replace it ( saw thread where Clutchdust mentioned adjustment ).If so, how the hell do you get the stake nut off ? cant shift it with normal socket set (have lifted locking bit).
Cheers Kevin

There should be no play at all in the wheel bearings - as for undoing the stake nut,no problem at all with a 1/2 inch impact gun. There is no adjustment - it is worn out and needs replacing.

I'm here!!!!! bit late though

td5's or series 2 disco are non adjustable and the wheel bearing comes as the whole hub assembly, if there's play, it needs to be replaced. driveshaft nut is bloody tight and the only ways to get it off are a massive long breaker bar and jump on it with a helper on the brakes or an air gun

series 1 disco are adjustable

i have same problem have everything off apart from main nut ,, what is the exact socket size ??? have tried 32 mm but being a long socket wants to tip when any pressure applied any help would be grateful Ray ,:(:mad:

Had to heat mine off, had 2 m bar on mine and it was bending like a banana!

The hubs on ebay for £40 ish are actually ok
