Hi all. I'm replacing a noisy rear wheel bearing on a 54 plate Freelander. I've got the hubb carrier off to clear the CV joint splines and behind the CV joint isls a right old rusty mess.
I've found a metal ring between the bearing and the CV joint that isn't attached. Just floating in the rust. The size fits over the outside of the CV joint and inside the hub carrier (obviously) but I can't tell what it's for or where it's detached from.
On the inside looks as if it's rusted away and the outside is a roll edged ring. Has anybody got any ideas?
Im wondering if it was a weather shield between the back of the CV joint boot and the hub carrier. I don't think its paer of the ABS wheel speed sensor as I've seen on another thread that there's no reluctor ring on this model.
So do I put it back and put up with any noise or throw it as another pointless weather shield?
Any help gratefully received.
