Hi Again
I would like to give my disco a good service this weekend as it's due. Would you guy's recomend using genuine landrover filters or are there other brands you guys would recomend? Also has anyone got one of those ITG performance air filters that they sell at td5 alive? are they any good? worth having? Also is there a certain make of oil which is the best to use? Cheers Dan

Other 'named' filters are just as good and may come from the same manufacture that Land Rover Use.
Use the grade of oil that LR recommends for your disco and use a named oil i.e Castrol. Mobil, Comma even the stuff Halfords put their name to, and that it's to LR spec or better, keep away from tractor oil.
I can't comment on the air filter but I would just use a standard paper filter.

filters a just as importand as oils use good quality filter not the cheepest you can get and good quality oils halfords are ok for top brand oils but they have a top brand price try you local auto factors buying oil in 25l drums will work out alot cheeper

I use 'branded' oil filters brought from the likes of Paddock or MM4x4, as far as oil, I swear by Comma, it is used by most fleet operators and is cheaper than Castrol or Duckhams

I chamged my standard paper air filter for a K&N washable one, more cost effective, and a slight improvement in performance.

I cannot get my head round how a LR main stealer can charge £300+ for a basic service, but I guess the clue is in the name !!!

Landrovers are easy for the DIY mechanic to work on, and touch wood the electronic wizardy seems reliable so far

Morning gents

The ITG filter Gary sell's at TD5alive is a foam filter that is better than filtering the air than cotton ones like K&N stopping small bit of crap getting into the engine. Speak to him and he'll explain in more detail

Good point, from what i can tell no body on the forum has that high opinion of the brit part stuff. Will the coopers filters be ok? they don't seem to pricey either.
