td5 remap chip £180 ebay. any good?

just seen a company selling remap chips for 179.99 on ebay. you send them your ecu and they fit chip.and return. any one know any thing about these .the company is chipgods-dot-com

You send your ECU and never see it again or your money..........

do they offer a servive while you wait?

if there only doin it mail order who knows what they will do to "your ecu" and what you will get back by return

Sounds a little fuzzy to say the leased !

I would get a propper remap, Im still looking after 3 weeks there are a few people i have in mind.

I have just used this company and I am expecting the ecu back anytime soon.

I will give it a try and report back.

So far they have been brilliant, answered any of my questions and always reply straight away by e mail with minimum waiting.

From what I can see the hardware is the same as you would get from the other well known tuning companies.

Will update this when I know more.....

What's that supposed to mean?

I just saw this post and I own a landrover (disco not defender) so thought I would say I had just gone ahead with an upgrade from these people.

I had been looking for a remap for a while, considered all of them, some companies answered some of my questions, others none, and some didn't bother to reply at all.

I have experience with remapping a turbocharged petrol car although had nothing to do with diesels although I understand the process involved. These guys answered all my queries straight away.

I'll post my thoughts when I give the car a try.

I chose eco max, 30hp 45nm

Don't forget, all the well known companies had to start somewhere, give them a chance.

well call me cynical but your first post on this forum is about a company nobody has heard of who have built up there ebay profile selling pillows furniture off the shelf fuel pumps and computer spares and no advertising for previous ecu work. Not exactly a big reputation for sending your expensive ecu to and no offer to turn up and have it done while you wait.

If you looked everywhere and came up with these guys I can only think you were directed more by price than reputation. there are companies discussed on here lots and chipgods have never had a mention before.

I may well be wrong but at the moment I am thinking you either work for them or am smelling a meat based product.

Well, for those who are interested in the topic subject.

I now have the ecu back, soldering looks neat.
They received the ecu Wednesday at 2pm it was back by Friday

There is noticably more go from low in the rev range and it seems to pull harder higher up the revs too. And it doesn't appear smokey

Im happy with it anyway.

Will let you know on mpg, not had enough time to look into it yet. It says it will increase but who knows?

I have nothing to do with that company at all, I had been viewing lz as a guest for a few months now and saw your post, As i had just gone ahead with this I thought I would register and post as there were a string of negatives but no one had actually tried the product.

My second choice was the je stage 1, although they don't fit a socket, direct soldered, the price is good with their special offer at the mo just under 240 fitted.

These were the reasons I chose this upgrade

At the end of the day the vehicle in question is an old v reg discovery worth approx 3000, I couldn't justify spending 15% or more of the vehicles value on an ecu upgrade just to tow the horses about.

When I looked at the other options the hardware is all the same, chip, socket bit of soldering. (unless you got the flash type) One companies code costs the same to put on the chip as the others. Once all development and research is done.

Ok so they didn't check it before or after, but if you went for a post service from the others you wouldn't get that either.

I also asked them if the quoted power figures were for disco or defender as it seems the defender starts life approx 10hp down compared with disco.

Im not 100% on this before anyone rips me to pieces but i believe the defender runs less boost pressure. Neither of which are controlled by changing the fuelling maps on either model.

Perhaps something you should ask in your enquiries?

I had all the same worries as everyone else, it went special delivery, i marked the circuit board, chip and both parts of the casing so i knew it was mine that come back.

Who knows maybe i have done something stupid, and as with all things time will tell. At the moment though it works, and works well

Also i will say when looking on here i found some instructions on how to clean the map sensor on the inlet manifold. The sensor was covered in crap, this alone made an improvement.

Ok, managing 25mpg towing today

So I wont say its any better on fuel economy. Used to manage between 25-30 depending on driving or what I was towing before.

There you go, there are loads of companies to choose from so just pick one that suits your budget, location and what you want from the vehicle.

Any more unrelated comments?
