Td5 relays

Can anyone confirm that all the black relays in the fuse box in engine bay are the same, they appear to have the same number on the tops .
I'm having a prob with my front heated screen not getting hot enough and wondering if it could be anything to do with that as I got the relay posted from a breaker.

A relay is just an on/off switch and a heated screen is just a bit of glass with heater elements built into the plastic lamination.
The relay cannot partially work it's either on or off.
The heater elements can fail in part so that you get areas that clear and areas that don't. If that is the case then you need a new screen.
The only other place to look for problems are the connections from the wiring loom into the screen. These can corrode, causing resistance or fail completely.

Cheers it's a brand new screen so hopefully it's not that. I'm going to check the current draw in a bit

Check your insurace detail for screen excess - at this time of year all kinds of stones/grit etc. can be sent flying from the HGV in front of you. £50 excess for example is no price to pay for a screen costing almost £800

put a hammer threw it and claim cheapest way.

Haha I know, think I've come to the conclusion it's the screen. I had my auto electrician mate have a look and tested volts and current and compared it with another and it s the same.
It's brand new so hopefully on warranty .
If anyone needs it I got a nanocom and can switch on screens in the bcu

what you going on about?? his is a heated screen, new at that! maybe a faulty one tho? insurance excess??
he is just trying to get it working! i think?

I'm tempted to ask "How hot is hot enough?"

You're not going to be frying eggs on it, all you can expect is that it'll get warm enough to demist the screen and when the weather is very cold melt the frost covering, not six inches of snow.

it does 2 inches in about 20 minutes if working like mine because thats how late i was for work. screen on, engine running, heated seat on and a mug of tea.

I know you can't fry an egg on this one ( no I didn't try)
It's not as warm/hot as most other cars out there and certainly nowhere near as warm as my v8 disco screen. I'm starting to wonder if it's a cheap screen that they put in? As my v8 is a genuine screen and would defrost / demist in a couple of minutes where as my new one takes 5 to 10 mins to get kind of warm.

I gave up on heated screen took to long to defrost, in the end fitted diesel heater off an old Rover saloon.
Now have clear screen and warm truck.

Come to think of it - some Discos have a fuel burning heater as an option...

Yeah I've noticed that they do aswell but I don't think you can make them come on before the car is started . Would be nice to jump in and have it all warm
