Hello all. i have purchased a egr blanking plate for my td5 but not shure where to put it (wife made a few sugestions but they seem rather painfull).I beleive i have the type 2 EGR Valve, i am presuming i fit the plate between the egr pipe closest to the egr valve. Could anyone advise me before i get my big hammer out....THANKS...TONY

Just fit the blanking plate BETWEEN the exhaust manifold and the flange of the EGR pipe and repalce the screws tightly.

Job done.

Later if you feel like it you can take the whole thing off and bin it.

Thanks for your help. As i only have the blanking plate i will fit that untill i get the other part. One more question should i remove the blue vacume hose now or wait untill i bin the whole lot...THANKS AGAIN...TONY

Hi Tony, just fit the plate meantime.

This completely stops the exhaust gas getting to the inlet manifold, so the valve thing can do what it likes but no gas is coming through anyway.

I think you will feel the engine to be perkier, and the fuel consumption will be about 20% better.

Just fitting the plate took mine from 26-27 mpg up to 31-32 steady now.

All for a wee bit of plate.

i still havent worked out why land rover bothered to put the EGR on in the first place!
Quite simple, there are rules and regs that say what is and isnt acceptable in terms of emissions.EGR is,(the mechanical bits anyway) a simple way to massively reduce Nox output.(Oxides of Nitrogen, the major cause of acid rain and trees dying in Scandinavia)
If the Egr is working properly it will make no measureable difference to performance or fuel consumption, for various reasons it can fail to work properly - causing a drop off in performance and a rise in fuel consumption.
There - you did ask,the fact that most people disable it for "a massive gain in performance and fuel economy" is up to them. The truth is more complex than a blanking plate or a ball bearing from E-bay.
