Td5 Egr Blanking?

Hi everyone, im new to the forum, with my first landrover, which is a 2000 Discovery Td5.
Ive heard a few things about blanking the egr valve and wondered what sort of differences it really makes.
If it does make a difference and is worth doing, what do i have to buy? As i have seen kits at around £40 or just a simple blanking plate at about £5.

Did my 2000 TD5 about a month ago and to be honest i havent noticed any difference. Maybe my EGR was working 100% before i changed it. I would imagine that if you have a sticky EGR you may notice a difference.

First of all it is useful to understand what EGR actually is, do you?

Second, www.paddockspares.co.uk do a TD5 De-EGR kit for about £22+vat that has been used by several owners I know and they are pleased with the results.

If your car has a cat in the downpipe, removing that obstruction is a worthwhile improvement but as yours is a yr 2000 model it may not have one, you need to check.

The best modification I have made to mine are (in order of best improvement first):

1. Remap the motor - had it done by Dynachip, cost £225 and transformed the car.

2. De-cat exhaust downpipe - cost about £60 and helped with reposiveness and mpg

3. De-EGR - cost about £25 and helped with smoother running, hill climbing and mpg.


Mine is well serviced with good filters regularly changed and good oils. Tyres checked weekly and all levels checked daily.
