TD5 coolant system bleed screw replacement...

Hi!

I sheared off my bleeder screw head yesterday - it seems they're weak (and I'm strong :doh: - ooh I could crush a plastic screw!)

Anyway, microcat tells me that my car does not have one fitted (!!) - though it does show it having the whole section of hose it screws into.

Is the screw replaceable or do I need to buy a whole new section of hose?

If you have the one that's moulded into the hose itself, then it is well worth upgrading to the later one with the screw moulded into the plastic bit.

I'm assuming that TD5's have a similar arrangement to the V8's.

It isn't sold as a separate part, but I have seen them on fleabay.

I bought the screw and installed it today.
I had to drill a slot in the thread of the old screw with a 1mm drill and undo it with a small screwdriver.
I'll try not to break that again!

You can buy it from landrover as a seperate part. as i have brought one before.

Please can anyone tell me Where is the bleed screw on td5 for the cooling system.

Mine went on way back from are holidays you can buy a new hose or if you can get the old one out replace it with a stainless one

Are you saying a stainless steel screw to replace the bleed screw?

Its probably safe enough - but I would be concerned about:

1. The metal thread wearing away the hose's thread as you screw it in
2. The metal expanding differently to the rubber and wearing the hose's thread

The more I think about it the more I think I'm overly concerned.
Firstly you're probably not goint to be removing/replacing the screw that often
and secondly I doubt the metal screw would expand that much

On the whole a good idea then

on my 04 disco 2 td5

Ive just had the 3rd screw break on me in as many months. replaced the hose as well last time. Is there a better fix for this yet rather than using these silly plastic screws. have seen the brass screws on ebay from oz but nothing in the uk. also seen mention of a t-piece modification but no details of supply source.

Whats wrong with a 6mm flange head bolt ? Been working fine in my TD5 for ages - one less thing to go wrong.Same deal in the bottom of the fuel filter too.(They put a lot of diesel on the road when the stupid plastic drain screw or water sensor gets knocked off..)
