About 2 months ago a bought an 08 LR3 with 165k km to replace my 99 P38 for offroading. This car has the 4.4 V8.

For a while I had been smelling coolant in the engine compartment. Monitoring coolant levels they never went down, there were no drips, and a look inside revealed nothing obvious so I didn't immediately investigate further. Finally I took off the engine cover and discovered 2 spots that seemed to be weeping, one at the thermostat cover and the second at the left side horizontal pipe. Looked like a hairline crack in the thermostat cover while the O ring must have been leaking at the pipe. Bought a replacement from Rock Auto for $124CAD and $26CAD for FedEx shipping to my door. Arrived really fast, something like 3 days. Took my brother and I 2.5 hours to remove old assembly. Main issue is that you have to remove the throttle body to get at the 4 machine screws holding the rectangular section to the top of the engine. A 1/4 inch drive socket set is handy for the tight places. Took us 2 hours to put it all back together. All good now. Also replaced my Low Coolant sensor which was not working. This just snaps into the bottom of the overflow tank.
