Suddenly a couple of weeks ago me Alpine XQE100240 autochanger decided to start telling me there were no discs in it even though I remember putting the bleedin things in!!!
Asked the question on ere and also a few electronic buffs locally, and they all said "fooked laser" or some electronic component I cant remember, was shot.
Started looking on fleabay and saw a couple go for about £80-£120 without guarantee of working, so I'm thinking that I'm gonna get me troosers pulled down by someone if I want to listen to any proper music.
I decided to take it out tonight, remove cover and have a butchers. The disc cartirdge was going in and noises as though they were loading, but the head unit said no discs. It turned out to be the large black gear wheel that was obviously just jammed. After a flick with me little finger its back up and running.
The moral to this little story is that even if you know fook all about summit, its always worth having a go, just saved myself either an expensive repair bill by some electronics cowboy or buying a used one in unknown condition.:)

How right U are, just what I still do even when the whole thing springs apart all over the place with no hope of re-assembly, Oooooops :)

U should have told us it was an Alpine unit, their notorious for jamming the large black gear wheel. We were advising on the LR unit as they don't jam they break.

Regards

Damn, should have said it was an alpine, would have saved myself lots of searching on the net for another unit....oh well, something else I've learned!

my alpine unit (same) has also given me grief, but in my case half way through any cd it starts to skip, or stop, or in worse case scenario as yours, decides there are no cd's present, one day it will work ok, another it can be a right pig, i did take it apart and cleaned ever so gently the laser, but after a day or so, it was back, and so i have now decided to get a new changer, lets hope it solves my problem. a second hand unit always carries the risk of the same intermittent problem.
