Hello all,

I have a 2001 TD5 and recently a noise has developed when on overrun on downhill road.
The noise is an intermittent `knock` that may happen once or twice until level road is travelled on and is not speed related.
It sounds like its coming from the gearbox or transmission to the rear axle.
I`ve owned it from new with 47k miles showing currently.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi John, can you provoke the noise by accelerating then letting going of the pedal? Is it a single knock or a series of knocks?

Hi Biglad,

No, I cannot provoke the noise by manipulating the controls, apart from, if on-drive (opening throttle) the noise is not apparent. It only occurs on the overrun and then without any pattern connected with revs or speed. The `clunk` is singular and not repeated immediately but possibly a few seconds later depending whether I`m travelling on a downhill gradient, the gradient down obviously is unloading the drive train and allowing the `slap/clunk` It`s a fairly metallic sound..

Thanks for your interest,
