Came back to my landy today (raining heavy) to find my side lights and main beam on.

Vehicle started and drove home ok but the main beam remained on and the wipers would do there own thing......Assumed that there is an earth fault.

Spent last 4 hours cleaning connectors and earths BUT to no avail. The only way to get the main beam (flash) to extinguish is to disconnect the battery.

I cant see anything wrong with the switch but research on here indicates that this is a cause of some high beam failures. Is it worth changing?

I have given the loom down the L/H wing a good wiggle but no noticeable effect.

with all the fuses for the lights out the only light that remains on is the front left main beam.

As ever your collective expertise would be gratefully received. I'm downing some hob gobbling 'ruby ale' to drown my sorrows.

Have you tried the relays at the bottom of your gear stick fuse panel?

Although it is pretty strange the wipers and headlights are all-mis behaving.

If its not the relay come loose then try removing the fuse for the window wipers and see if the headlights go off like there supposed to. Then try removing the fuse for the headlights and see if the wipers behave.

Which ever fixes the problem, the fuse removed is the circuit that has an issue.

Im not sure but instead of switching to live the wipers might switch to earth so there could be a shared dodgy earth somewhere causing you grief.

Report back see if anyone else has a better idea.

Good luck

 Thanks for the heads up - I was going down all sorts of rabbit holes last night WRT finding earths etc. A bit of logic might just be the tonic required.

This morning I reconnected the Battery and all seems OK which could either be an earth sorted or random luck.

I have a new stalk (main beam, horn etc) ready to fit as the horn is u/s so will see if that makes a difference.

I might also pull the loom through the wing to the front, insect it and then re-fit in the engine bay - from research on here this seems like a common area for the wires to rub and get random live feeds.

Ill be on task tomorrow and will report back. i'm 50/50 that it will either be dodgy switch or chaffed loom under wing.......Thx again.

The loom under the wing was completely chaffed through. It caused a host if different intermittent faults especially when it was damp weather.

Most recently the fuel pump would power up when i stood on the wing to load the roof rack........

Also caused a number of other permanent live feeds like it had been possessed which is all very halloween.

Now sorted (fingers crossed) with multiple solder and tape. Ive also re routed the loom to inside the engine bay.
