Hi there,

completely new to the forum (will show soon enough) and I'm curious as to whether you can swap the Di motor with the TD4 engine in the freelander? And if so how easily is it to do?

Any information would be greatly appreciated as I have more faith in the BMW motor unless I'm lacking knowledge that other people have?

Thanks

Most will tell you that the DI is more reliable, cheaper to fix etc if a little more agricultural. Better to just buy a TD4 engine'd one

Electrics would need changing as would engine mounts and even gear box. That said if you had a donor vehicle it could be done.

Two things I would say

1) ultimately cheaper to buy a td4 to start with

2) the td4 isn't actually that much better than a tweaked DI! Back when I had my old DI I always thought I was missing out only to be very disappointed when I got a td4! Don't get me wrong it's a good engine just not that different from the DI, bit quieter etc but I wouldn't say it was worth it

Good luck

well now you've said that I feel more confident with the Di! As well as being a landy fan i'm also a massive BMW supporter so naturally I wanted the TD4 but having found a nice and affordable Di I'll go for it! :)

thanks for the advice

Had both and love the L series more its gives less hasstle than td4 upto now its been cheaper to fix for what problems I have had
