Had my wife's 54 plate TD4 2.0d serviced about a month ago and ran like a dream. 2 days later engine management light came on, took it to the garage and the above fault was diagnosed.

Had the boost solenoid changed on the turbo and the pressure sensor on the inlet manifold as well as all the vacuum pipes. Still ran really ruff and the fault can not be reset due to a continuos fault, car was now running worse than ever, under powered and very smokey.

Got referred to a 4 x4 specialist and they could also not reset the fault, but have disconnected the MAF valve and blocked off the EGR vac pipe, now whilst it runs better. It,s still has problems.

The engine management light is still on and ruff at idle, then improves when driving but can now be problematic to start with lots of black smoke.

I've also changed the coolant pressure sensor as I read in a post sometimes this caused the fault.

So several £100's in parts and labour and still no joy. Anyone out there had anything similar and got it sorted.....

If it runs better with the Maf disconnected then it's a good bet that will be the problem. The engine will never run correctly using the engine speed and throttle position calculations alone!!

Cheers, any ideas on the bad starting and black smoke though, checked the turbo hoses and all ok, also forgot to mention crankcase filter also changed.

and the pressure sensor on the inlet manifold

m.a.p. sensor ?????

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
anyhow .. check the fuel-rail-pressure sensor ..
clean the plug contacts ...
ROVER 75 MGZT ENGINE FAULT FINDING
and as what Nodge68 said .. the MAF ..
( it could be knackered and in an overfueling condition
( hence black smoke ..
and what's the condition of the turbo-solenoid-vent-filter ?
was it changed ? is it clean ?
and the air-intake-temperature sensor ?
Thanks guys, ill try the air intake and fuel rail sensor.
The MAF is disconnected, and the vent filter has been changed.
Very frustrated, now starts ok in the morning and after being left for a few hours very stubborn to start and lots of black smoke. Arggggghhhhhh.....:mad:
