hi
mates just picked up a 51 reg td4 with 100,000 on the clock, he purchased it with a fault the fault being wont start lol but i started it right away then it wouldnt start again for a short while

the chap he had it of says he took it to a land rover garage (stratstone) who said #1 & 2 injectors need replacing but when it does start it runs fine

it has had a new cam sensor on it and i've looked at the connection on the fuel rail and that seems fine

any idea's???

cheers

no1 and 2 injectors by the sound of it.....!!!

try starting it with some jump leads on from your running car, might be the battery is on its way out and ain;t got enough oomph to actually start it....

Would put my money on a leaking back injector. At 100k then it about the age that they need replacing. The best option is to get them refurbed, best to shop around as we pay £85 per injector for a full refurbishment.

If it is a leaking back injector once it fires then as the injectors run at 28000 psi then it will run fine at the high pressure pump is running at full pressure and can put more fuel through the injector to compensate for any leak back.
When cranking the common rail needs 12000 psi to fire if an injector is leaking back it then fails to pressure rise the rail to the required pressure and the high pressure pump will not kick in at full pressure, it may be that it is a really border line case so at times the rail will pressure rise other times it will not. The problem will get worse with an injector then at some point it will not start period.

ok great i'll let him know that and poss got hold of a couple of used injectors off a chap on here so hopefully alls good

cheers for the advice

will it crank over if not it is more than likely to be starter motor you can get the parts of ebay very simple to replace you will have to take the battery holder off and there is a bolt that runs through onto the starter motor form memory i think it is the 17mm job
hope this helps

Failing crank sensor is said to give similar symptoms though usually they fail completely & don't start at all.

hello

sorry comp been off line few days

not staerter as it cranks and does start and run, last owner replaced the crank sensor so looking like the injectors

cheers

back from his hols now he's looking to get it fixed so tried starting it and started first time, he ran it around for few hrs and now wont start.
