Hi all

Just purchased a 2003 freelander td4 great car however last night driving along engine cut out and engine light came on. It happened apparently before i bought it too but was taken straight to dealer who changed an injector some other checks etc and fault cleared. I gave it a full service apart from fuel filter which arrives today ironically the only tell tale sign was sometimes it took a couple of times to start and on an odd occasion it would miss a little on motorway etc but as soon as you let off pedal and repressed it was fine. it is at 70 000 miles full dealer service history until 12 months ago.

Ok so my question I have a new landrover genuine under arch filter and pump arriving tomorrow morning and just looking for fitting tips. done a few searches but nothing turned up. do i need any jubilee clips or do you recommend correct compression clips fitting? i have lowered the pump and filter housing already so locating it is fine. anything else i should do whilst under there as prevention any restarting tips after fitting?

Cheers

Richard

You do not need any new clips as the ones to the pump the will clip off just use a small screwdriver to flip them off and you can reuse them fine.
It is a lot easier to remove the pump housing completely as the filters can be a pig to get out and its nearly imposable to remove pipe from pump to filter in situ, it’s a lot easier on a bench, one think to look out for is that the earth strap tend to break, so you may have to do a bit of fabricating.
Remember to fit the filter with the flow in the correct direction.
As for starting just let the pump run for a minute then start cranking as the TD4 is self bleeding.

Fantastic news and as i hoped fairly straight forward. There is another pot lets say with a plastic screw plug in bottom what is its function? is it worth cleaning it out?

The thing you are looking at is the fuel sedimentor, you can drain it out but we normally leave it alone as the washer on the drain plug somtimes need to be replaced if you do.

Excellent I may drop it off today and wait for parts tomorrow.

Im looking to buy a fault code reader and see there are a few but they arent very specific as to vehicles they work with. I am guessing a £70 budget should get me something woth buying? Any advice?

I hope that is the problem though if not at leat i have peace of mind as it seems they have a few idiosyncrasies having read about the problems some have had.
