Shirley (sorry Si)
thats the point - do you drip feed a freelander or go japanese, rarely have probs - but when yu do its fookin expensive - swings and roundabouts?

ooo NI - someone hit a nerve?

It is generally recommended that peeps dont get a petrol hippoo unless they know what could happen. We all know there are good ones out there, but the risks of probs are greater.
Sum peeps take the attitude "it wont happen to me" and then are surprised when it does.
forewarned is forearmed - shirley?

No raw nerve MHM

People cant expect to dish out comments without any form of retaliation

Remember we may be outnumbered but we are never outgunned ;)

Actually its very good in the snow, comes into its own ;) :D

For those NI troopers, Church road, Craigantlet its a must in the snow ;)

Boxing one handed or not, how many other petrol engines do you know of still trundle on with this, physical impairment: see link

Aye I tried that an picked a fight with a 6'2" 17st bloke and got the living daylights thrashed out of me. It's not recommended.

You know what they say Redhand, the bigger they are the harder they fall.

Its the wee ones you gotta watch, they get in there like Jack Russells

no-one is sayin it is a bad SUV - with those limitations - its jus that the petrols are so unreliable, poorly designed and put together that the good looks and orf road performance are overshadowed.

As usual LR shot themselves in both feet (and that arm), by poor execution.

I speak only for the 1.8 k-series engine, with a few tweaks it can be twice the machine, easily obtain 200bhp from simple tuning (no diagnostic PLUG INS) and the engine will still only weigh 95kg fully dressed.

have to agree about the light weigh of the 1.8 K. It flies easily with low carriage cost.

MODERATORS - Could you remove this thread as a sticky, it does not deserve that status.

It does nothing to benefit Freelander Owners

Quite agree, the tag line for this thread is "Freelander fans, let's hear you."

Its obvouse that many of the people posting are not fans, so perhaps the tag line needs changing.

I am not claiming that the Freelander is the most reliable car in the world, or that potential owners shouldn't be warned of possible problems, but looking around there are a lot of Freelanders out there, the majority are serving their owners well and they are happy with them.

To have a sticky saying don't buy this car is a very negative attitude.

I haven't been a Landyzone member for long, but I have picked up some good advice from it, and I will be sorry to leave, but if that is the sort of extreme negative attitude it is going to have, that may be the only option open to me.

thas not much good if the VCU is shot - or the chassis cracked or.........

No not good!

to date we have 2 cracked chassis, nothing that a simple weld wouldnt fix and possibly some simple modifications giving extra torsional strength ;)

The cross members on the monocoque under floor are chunky

The VCU should give less problems since 2001, as you already know - the ratio is the same as the back, stronger journals and bearings on the rear diff too.

The VCU showed many problems in the states, most Merkins bombing up and down the highway at 70/80mph. The VCU should never be subjected to that sort of driving.

The only gripes I have with a FL1 is no 2wd/4wd selection or low box.

I compromise by going Mondo Mode, until such times as yourself, Ming, Ianh1 and Co. come up with a modification ;)
