Hey so I have a Petrol 1.8 and a Diesel 2.0 TD4 (Parts car)

I may need to replace the Gearbox (another thread in question) but I am of the understanding that the gearbox from the TD4 does not fit the 1.8 Petrol. However...

This suggests that the 1.8 petrol and 2.0 Diesel are the same as long as it is the 8V variant not the BMW engine.

Could I then with relative certainty swap the good gearbox from my 8V 2.0 diesel to my 1.8 petrol?

If not, how can I work out for sure whether my Diesel has the TCIE engine or the BMW engine?

Thank you!

The Rover engines use the 'same' gearboxes. They are also found in many Rover cars of the era. In the cars they have a diff where these splined shafts are in Freelander (as they are FWD).

However, the ratios of the gears will be different for the lower reving diesel to the higher reving petrol. I presume they would physically fit, but would not operate very well.

Td4 is the BMW engine.

Td4 is the BMW engine.
yeah I thought so but mine says 8V on the engine but also says TD4 on the back (Door)

You know what, I will take it out the diesel and let you all know how it goes :)
