Yes I agree, everyone is entitled to say what they like (within forum rules of course)

My point was, how did a junior member manage to get a sticky, on a topic they know very little about. You should have more forum credibility for that sort of thing

I'm a big fan of the Twin cam 16v k-series, an enthusiast. I admit there are hgf from the original Payen gasket on all models of cars. Again we dont have official figures from the hundreds of thousands of k-series out there, it was around 0.3% several years back, obviously this will have increased since then.
Yes and if it was just the engines that were dodgy on em it wouldn't be such a big problem would it? but when you add up all the other faults they're prone to then they become a liability.

My argument was.......the 1.8 is no worse or no better than the other models.
The diesels all have their own inherent problems too, turbo hoses, injectors, sensors playing up etc

If you ae new to this forum, take note what the guy's on here are saying (mainly 1.8 petrol) DON'T BUY IT

can honestly sat that there is nothing good about the1.8 petrol thingylander. TO ANYBODY THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE DON'T BOTHER!

Darren Smith didnt get to the nature of the problem despite suggestions from others on here. Again, cos the technicians couldnt get it sorted for him, all of a sudden its the cars fault. If you look through his threads you'll see that offers were made but no come back with further info.

Daz, had you got to the bottom of the problem you would find that you would have enjoyed the 1.8

Engine is just a piece of sh.. and in the end of 2007 there isnt any effectively solution.

George_k obviously didnt do his research, with MLS gasket available since March 2006.
,,,,,,, yes there are a couple of reports that hgf has occured with the MLS gasket, although it would appear that the liner heights were not checked the first time round, common mistake.

Clutchdust has reported that the MLS gasket has even removed any discrepencies from the warped head situation. Heads that would otherwise be scrap can be used due to the compensation of thicker gasket.

You lose a some compression due to the extra 0.1mm shim, Its still to early to tell but definitely a step in the right direction
