Hello All, TD4 with Tailgate fault. I know there are many threads etc on this subject but none of them are helping me.
Started with unable to open tailgate. Micro switch in handle clicks ok but nothing happens. Tried lowering and raising the tailgate window from the dashboard switch and I can hear the lower and raise relays click in turn from behind the trim in the back of the car. If I try and lower then the rear wiper will not work and unable to dead lock the car. Beeps when key fob pressed to lock. If I then try to raise the window then the wiper works Ok and I can deadlock the car. All of a sudden the window dropped half the amount and the door unlocked. I was able to spring the door open and ease the glass from below the top trim. I can now remove the inner trim and look inside the door. Have tried pulling and pushing wiring and connectors with no improvement. Tapped the motor and felt it whilst switching-no movement felt. Door open / shut micro switch seems to operate ok. What electrical readings should I get on what connectors at what stage in the opening process would I expect to see. Have tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and all I get now is some beeps when I try to lower. No further forward--HELP!!

Sounds like you need a new regulator or cable. I first thought your window had separated from the cable and was stuck up. Hence the hippo thinking all was working normally,

Wiper won't work with window down car won't fully lock etc (even though the glass is up the regulator thinks it is down)

Hello All,
I have fitted a new regulator and cables complete and all is now ok. Just one question-does the glass sit in the bottom of the clamps or do you raise it slightly. It seems the glass comes down further than before when door opened. It tucks in under the trim ok when raised but by how much should this happen-no info in Haynes. Should it be fitted a little higher? Thanks.

The glass should sit at the bottom of the clamps and there should be an equal gap at each side between the glass edge and the aperture when the window is closed. There should also be approx.1mm deflection on the rubber window seal when the window is closed. During the calibration procedure the regulator drives the window up to the closed position and this causes the motor to stall. The electronic system then "Learns" the closed position and when the door handle micro switch is operated for door opening, the ECU sends a preset pulse to the regulator motor that has been calculated to drop the glass to the "COS" (Clear of seal) position.
Excessive pressure on the rubber seal by the glass will cause the window to drag and struggle to reach it's "Learned" top position.
Most important point regarding tailgate window problems is to ensure that the rear wiper is in the "Parked" position and sitting on the horizontal rubber waist seal.
