Hi, I recently have been having problems with my tailgate window not opening properly after opening the tailgate door. I had to press the window down slightly in order to close the tailgate without knocking the window on the roof of the freelander. Last night I forgot to push the window down slightly and it hit the roof, causing the window to go open and now it wont close again.

I have tried to reset it by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it and trying the rev it to 1500rpm trick but still nothing. When I press the switch to open the window it beeps 4 times. But nothing happens when trying to close it.

Please help.

It's likely a cable issue. It's quite common for the window cables to rust though. You'll need a replacement regulator assembly, unless you're going to play with changing just the cables?

Thank you. Will open it up and see if its just going to be a cable change, before getting the whole regulator assembly. Is there a way to manually close the window? The vehicle is standing in a car port, and I just want to get it closed for safety reasons untill I can get it repaired.

A suitable piece of wood can be use to hold the window in the closed position. It's best to remove the inner panel, then close the door, and lift the window to the closed position, holding there with a suitably cut length of wood.

I take it you are a highly skilled engineer with lots of experience in this field.

If your level of expertise is "somebody who visits a forum for help in fixing problems like this", I suggest to go straight for a regulator - it will save you putting a lot of coins in the swear jar before you probably then buy a regulator.

Personally, I'd go straight for the regulator and I have been through this process. You can guess which of the above 2 examples of LZ member I am :D

Great presentation. But my lift gate glass won't unlock. I have disassembled the wiper assembly and lifted the glass out of the way but cannot get the interior panel out of the way to access electric latch. In your comments you say this repair is complicated. It would be great to know how to proceed. This must be a common problem. Any suggestions?

If you've got the glass out of the way, I think you have to energise the wires that feed the latch on the door - this will open the door so that you can remove the interior panel. 'All' you have to do is find the right wire to apply 12v to - I presume it has permanent earth). Probably need someone who knows more to confirm this.

The Rave manual has wiring diagrams. You can follow the wire to a connector that is accessible somewhere - Rave has pictures of all the connectors showing you where they are.
