Is the Freelander Landrovers attempt to get to a part of the market that they couldnt acsess before ?. ( I dont mean reliable motors either !!),( they,ll never acsess that ).

It was designed to compete in what was a new market. It's a market which is still going strong today and it's known as a "Crossover". However, most new/modern crossover vehicles seem to resemble cars more than they do 4x4s. The diesel Freelanders deliver car like economy, performance, handling and can cope with mild to moderate off roading. Considering the volume sold, Land Rover didn't do too badly from a business point of view!

Because I like Jeeps and because I thought the message was nice. We may all have an interest in Landys, but that doesn't automatically make us Landy fanatics. Though, I guess you could say I'm in the minority here. On the plus side, at least I make it so that Landy fanatics have to have their daily dose of Jeeps!

My previous car was an old E46 BMW 318, basic spec, entry model. Yet it handled 10x better than my Freelander, especially where cornering was concerned. I've never driven a scooby, but I'm sure it would be at least on par with the 318, if not better. With that in mind, I find it difficult to believe that the scooby is near enough on par with the Freelander with regards to cornering characteristics.

That said, I wouldn't say the Freelander is bad, it's just far from being a rally car imo. Anyone who buys and expects a Freelander to handle like a rally car needs their heads testing!

When I got used to it, I adapted my driving style and have since had no problems. On the other hand though, my father has nearly rolled it over once or twice while cornering, as he hasn't got used to it. From what he said, it defo sounded like a brown trouser moment to me! But as I said, it's a 4x4, not a rally car. I don't know why we're having this debate really. Only on Landyzone would someone compare an Impreza with a Freelander...

Have you changed your struts yet? I seem to remember you making a post on the freelander section about your freelander handling not that great.

I've never almost 'rolled' my freelander, the rear has always stepped out way before it'd roll (doesn't tend to step out as much with the spoiler on the rear). And believe me, i've given it some stick in corners before.

You can tell when you can drive a car similarly to another car. The scoob, i found to be just a faster version of my freelander. Where as, say a vauxhall corsa would handle no where near the two of these cars. The back is too light, would step out way too early and easily send you into a spin.

a gaylander is a safe/as dangerous as a vw polo in a smash.Not good for a car which is 1.5 times the size

No that's not always the case because it's not that simple, even if they do have the same number of NCAP stars. Heavier cars more often than not have an advantage over a smaller/lighter car of a similar age. (When comparing a frontal collision involving the two respective cars)
