Hi gsuart, I've downloaded the manual in PDF but haven't got round to printing it yet.
Would definitely like the clock display so I'll look into that as well.
Next job after fitting my EGR blanking plates is to replace the rear anti roll bar bushes as they were given as advisories in the MOT.

did find it easier printed out , lol

u can do it on ur iid now, think it was called post 2006 or 2007 firmware update , but i can send the process etc , is scary at first as ur updating / reflashing ur landies computer , have to also ensure ur main battery is fully charged

when it’s updating , lights come on and off, etc etc , like the twilight zone

i’ve just ordered front HD drop links and new front anti roll bar bushes

rear anti roll bar bushes don’t look too bad, but u may swear at me if they are ;)

this is what i’m messing around with at the moment and blimey what fun , lol

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/front-strut-replacement.324924/

in the spring i’ve got the pleasure of replacing my rear upper wishbones, gulp

is restrictive space doing the egr valves , quick tip if i may say but is a secret so don’t tell anyone , lol

when i done mine i took both side battery trays out , they are in sections , u will find it a lot easier

mine were rather on the dirty side

The EGR valves certainly were on the dirty side.
Congratulations on your strut replacement work, looks a fantastic job.
I had a look on YouTube for the rear strut bush replacement and as you say looks pretty easy but I might have a different opinion when I've had a go.
I had a look in the manual for the clock update and saw the warning "Moderate Risk" and that the car could become unusable so decided to leave it, had enough hassle with it for a while lol

they were indeed dirty and after i done them engine ran a lot smoother on tickover

before i forget and forgive me what year was urs again plse

thks, the struts have indeed been fun, not, lol, still got the passenger side to start , didn’t put the inner liner back as i wanted to ensure 100% the drivers side was ok first and found a very small air leak on the front valve block, so will be easier to remove that and remake the fittings , as i bought some brass pushfits instead of the fittings that came the valve block , can the. retest the system before i move onto the passenger side

ah u chicken ref the update , lmao , but do understand

how have u found trying to understand the wiper and light stalks, fun or what , i fitted some D4 ones in mine and admit easier to decipher, mines a base model so also retrofitted the front manual seats to electric

how have u found urs driving wise, can’t believe how quite and comfortable they are

Mines an 06 and is a base model.
I think my indicator stalks are different to the ones in the picture but I'm not certain.
I love the way it drives and how quiet it is. I had 2 disco ones. I bought the first one brand new when business was going well and I kept it for about 10 years. The second one was 3 years old but had only done 7000 miles, a very lucky find. First one was a nightmare and I said I would never have another. When it came to replacing it though I couldn't find anything I liked better. The second one was fantastic, hardly any problems at all. kept it for about seven years and then bought this one. At first I could hardly believe the difference in smoothness, quietness and the way it handled. The problems over the last couple of months have been the only significant ones since I bought it.

thks, u won’t need the patch then when u blank the egrs

apologises , the pic shows the D4 stalks which i bought and updated my old D3 ones

i also looked at some D2s but couldn’t find one without the rusty chassis issues , got the landy bug over 25 x years ago , had series 2A and 3 landys , last one was a freelander 1 TD4 , it was ok but lack of room, ground clearance was an issue and didn’t want to start messing around with lifts etc , simply couldn’t keep up with the bigger landy when greenlaning as the terrain got harder it would simply bottom out ,

wanted something that had a lot more room, mainly for me and the dogs ,or taking my parents on days out , better capability , camping etc so then the D3 turned up and was bought as a project , taken me months resolving all the bodges that previous owners have done , ie sections of brake lines secured by cable ties etc

indeed also couldn’t believe how nice it was down the motorway , extremely quiet , regardless it being a big motor find it very easy to park , was worried at first if it wallowed but soon became apparent it didn’t , know it’s not designed to be chucked round corners but handles extremely well

will be interesting to see how it handles after rebuilding the front suspension

know it needs abit more attention but wouldn’t change it for the world and it’s the best i’ve owned so far

once finished will then start going out on some greenlaning trips

I'm pleased to say that so far I've not seen much evidence of the car being messed around with or bodged. I watched a video of someone working on a compressor and was amazed how much mud there was in the sound proofing box. When I opened mine up it was like new inside.
I must admit I don't use my car off road. When I bought my first one it was because I carried a lot of equipment for work and also wanted a car for the family as opposed to a van.It tends to get used by most of the family for moving large loads and days out.
Like you say they do need a fair bit of attention but I feel more confident now I have the iid tool.

Hi gstuart, I'm planning to blank my EGR valves off soon. You mentioned that you cleaned your pipes out before fitting them. Could I ask how you did this?
Did you use a solvent/cleaner or just scrape it off? I've looked on the internet for an EGR cleaner but the query just returns ones that you spray into the air intake or add to your oil.
Thanks

hi

i removed the egr pipes completely , it was the butterfly throttle body that i cleaned out, took it out very carefully and used some silicone grease for the O rings , makes sure u remove them from the egr pipes

leave the egrs in situ and wire still connected , just blank off the egrs pipes both ends, ie engine and throttle body

then have to remove the butterfly out of the throttle body

hope that makes sense

having fun with the iid , suprising how much it will do

PS , ive kept both my egr pipes just in case it ever became an issue with MOTs,

hope that helps

Hi Gary,
Yes I'd decided to keep all the parts in case of future MOT issues. Did you use a solvent to clean the butterfly throttle body?
Really impressed with the iid.
Many thanks
Dave

ur welcome , bought some egr cleaner and slowly cleaned out the throttle body , took ages as i wanted to be very careful , because u have a sensor in there

i found engine ticked over smoother after i blanked the egrs

have u printed the iid manual out yet, lol

this is what the throttle body body looked like after, blanks on and butterfly removed

not wishing to tell u how to suck eggs, don’t put a screwdriver down the end if the map sensor

i just sprayed it with map cleaner from the straw on the can

Apologies just realised I missed this message. Afraid I've not printed it out yet. I've viewed the PDF many times though lol.

wonder if it’s goes where the motor arm comes through into the butterfly housing

but will wait if that’s ok plse for some pics and can then try and narrow it down for u

I've just finished the job, I worked out it was from one of the electrical connectors. Thanks for the offer of help though.
Here is a picture of the EGR pipes.

blimey , they did need doing , did u also clean out ur map sensor at the same time

plus keep hold of those pipes , just in case the issue on possible new egr mot regs

how did u get on removing the butterfly

great it’s all done, have u noticed any difference yet

No I wasn't sure whether to clean it or not as there seem to be a lot of warnings about damaging it if you touch it

Yes I've got the bits stored safely in the garage.

I struggled a bit at first with the butterfly and then used a tool I bought to remove the fasteners on the wheel arch panels. It came out fairly easily with that.

It does seem to run better but not sure whether it's psychological or not lol

Are your struts all finished now?
