I would prefer to take my landy than burgle my house for my keys cos I have an alarm and stuff and of I wake up when they are here who knows what they could do to your wife in the next room? This is no joke watch the news!! I would never forgive myself if any1 hurt my miss's and would hunt them down and KILL but is irrevelent.

I do work for people who take landys, if they have a disclock and an alarm they stay away coz theres always 1 easier just a few mile away. I dont choose to do work for them but I'm not the boss at my work so can't refuse to do it. Just hear them talking to my work mates about stuff.1 thing I've learnt is if its gunna take more than 2 min to take it then they walk away, same if its got a disclock or alarm they walk away as it makes 2 much noise to get the disclock off. There not magic people who can turn sound off ya no!!. I don't choose to know these people but I now know what they avoid

:eek::eek:

And when I say I do work for them I mean i only do dodgy stuff now. Not Just m.o.t repairs, tyres etc

edited for accuracy :D

Disco2Shaun is right, I mean if you spend a couple of hundred on some security equipment, they're going to go to the nice unlocked Land rover next door!
And with the truck to haul it away, won't there be a racket with a 7 ton lorry outside your house dragging your landrover onto the back at early hours in the morning?

Something effective I saw recently was the Mech Lock, it's sold by Mud Stuff, it's a valve that is fitted into the clutch system, it locks the clutch open so it cannot be closed making it impossible to drive off unless they knew before hand that u had it, it's completely mechanical and also as it is a tiny box they won't know you have it, to remove it it requires fresh pipes, loads of clutch fluid, full bleed etc. Have a look, it's quite dear but nothing compared to the LR and part and time we put into them.

That doesnt stop em picking it up onto a HiAb and then removing the MechLock at their leisure once back to a lock up out of site.

Visable deterant is better i think, DiskLok, Thatcham Immobiliser (flashing LED), clutch claw, wheels on full lock.

If the MechLok holds the clutch open... what stops my landy rolling off down the hill and 'stealing' itself?

(Don't even waste your breath with saying hand break.)

Can I fit the Mech Lock System® to the brakes?
NO… & YES!

EU law states that: "Devices to prevent unauthorised use preventing release of the brakes of the vehicles shall not be permitted." We are therefore unable to advertise or supply the Mech Lock System® for use as a brake immobiliser.

In Italy, fitting the Mech Lock System® to the brakes is commonplace. The Italians get around the EU ruling by claiming the system does not interfere with the braking system when in normal driving conditions. Only when the system is activated by the owner and the vehicle is at a standstill does it prevent the release of the brakes and these are not 'normal driving conditions.' Providing the braking system has not first been pressurised by the application of the brake pedal, then in a passive situation, the Mech Lock System® is not "preventing the release of the brakes". If a thief was to start a vehicle with the system activated they could theoretically drive away perfectly normally… until the first time they have to apply the brakes. As soon the brakes are applied, the Mech Lock System® would activate. When the vehicle had reached a standstill the brakes would not release making the vehicle impossible to drive away.

Although we go along with the Italians literal interpretation of the EU rule, we feel this is still a grey area and one that could be open to legal scrutiny. Therefore, MUD UK has agreed with Mech Lock System UK that we will not supply an off-the-shelf kit for fitting the device into the brake system. If we supply a Mech Lock System® to operate as a clutch lock and you plumb the device into your braking system, the purchaser does so entirely at their own risk. All warranties and guarantees will automatically become void.

Brilliant... Yes you can steal my landy, but your f**ked the minute you come to brake! :)

Ideal for anyone living on a hill, thats for certain. Especially if there is a tight corner and brick wall at the bottom.

Though... as with a lot of these systems, they only kick in after someone has broken in, done the damage, wrecked the inition, etc. and about to drive off :/

Oh - and if you forget yourself... :s
