I have only just joined the Land Rover fraternity, albeit rather traumatically: I purchased a Land Rover on 23rd December 2010, had it stolen on 29th December 2010 and received my Scottish Land Rover Club membership card today.
It is a 1991 Defender 90, painted an unusual matt black with black canvas hood and black external roll cage fitted with black wire mesh grilles externally over hood sides. It has a galvanised chassis and bulkhead with removable heavy duty tow hitch at the rear; an electric winch mounted on the front bumper; very large off-road tyres; raised suspension; yellow coil springs and a new Isuzu diesel engine. There is an atypical disc brake arrangement in lieu of normal handbrake drum; small lamps mounted front and rear on top of roll cage; rear internal body completely finished in chequer plate up to body capping. Other special dashboard switches etc make this Land Rover easily identifiable. Currently it has the private number plates KVC1V attached.

feel sorry for you mate, ive been through it
got to say though bought on the 23rd and stolen on the 29th that sounds dodgy to me,did you buy it private sale or from a reputable company, ive heard stories before of lowlifes selling motors but keeping a spare key then stealing it back for parts etc
anyway i'll keep a look out for you around derbyshire, what area was it stolen from?

That's what I was trying to say but a bit more subtly, don't know why.

So sorry to here about your motor, but had the same happen to me night of the 28th dec. so i know how you feel. But i was speaking to my brother who is in the westmidlands police and he said 4x4 are been taken from 1990 - 1997 200tdi 300tdi as well as showgun's.if i ever get it back I will asking you about a kill switch.

Many thanks for your help. The vehicle was stolen in Helensburgh between 7pm and 10 pm on 29th December where it was in a garage with a fuel starvation problem. The problem had not been repaired so the thieves cannot have gone far unless the vehicle was removed on a transporter.
I bought it in a private sale from a friend who bought it from an aircraft engineer who had spent some two years completely rebuilding it.
The idea of a kill switch sounds interesting, how does that work? Though that, unfortunately wouldn't prevent removal by transporter!

very very sad news, hope you get it back in fair condition.i dont know which is getting nikd more these days old lambrettas or defenders, both are worth a lot of dosh, and both are easy to strip down, thieving scumbags do my head in,good luck getting it back, hope it all works out

U say it was in a garage when it was stolen. Was it in your garage or at a company getting fixed? Only asking because I've heard before about cars being stolen at garages when they've been in for repairs. I'd be asking the owner a few questions myself. Anyway sorry to hear of your loss I know how you feel as mine taken beginning of this year. Hope you get it back

It is also the garages responsibility to replace the motor or cough up the cash. if it was taken from their premises. Make sure your insurance companies legal department are aware that you expect them to claim off the garage.

I really feel for u fella, must be devistating. We had scum trying to steal bits off ours as the landys live in a field opposite our house. For about £200 I fitted a Clifford alarm with shock sensor, tilt sensor(for the wheels), dual zone proximity sensor and immobiliser.

Now if anyone stands within 1 meter of my landy the alarm goes off before they can even touch it. I stampped all my accessories(snorkel, lights etc) so they can be identified if the police were to recover them and took dated photos of the stamps on each item.

And lastly we have 24 hour CCTV recording them too. Pretty bullet proof now! A few months back I caught someone on the CCTV walking up to my landy and setting the alarm off at 2:30 am. Then running off startled!

Cant believe that you Landy was stolen. Sorry to hear about that hope the buggers get caught and jailed.

great looking landy i know were not supposed to go off topic but does your door have a cut out there for the roll cage because i just had a look at your pictures and just wondered how you open the door with the cage going across it

Gutted for you, I've had 2 stolen in the past and I know how you are feeling. I guess murder no longer seems such a serious a crime as it used to, it seemed the ideal way to deal with the thieving scum if I could have got my hands on them.

ther is some sad bassers out ther hope you get it back i no the pain ive ad it done to me nise looking truck mind you ill keep my eyes open down this part off the world :(
