Hi chaps - sorry to post a question but im a bit stupmed on where to start or if what I have is a common problem or not.

Discovery 1 on an M plate - 300 Tdi manual

It seems that if I hold the clutch pedal fully in for more than 5 - 10 seconds it sticks to the floor and kinda needs a bit of a kick / bounce to get it to spring back up.

It does seem to do it more when the engine is running and maybe more if its in gear with the clutch in but it might just be me. I also noticed that when I was praticing trailor parking and manouvering the pedal started to sit halfway down (just above the biting point) and to get it fully up it had to be pulled by hand. Im guessing it did this as it was getting hot maybe ?

Anyone had anything like this or got any ideas where to start ?

Many thanks in advance :)

For the sticking pedal bit, three things to look at, return spring is worn, cluch pedal pivot requires lubricating. or you have an iffy slave cylinder.
I go with the slave so remove the connection with the pedal and try the pedal on it own.

The points Discool has raised are all valid, but I have a sneaking feeling that you are about to lose your clutch altogether.

I suspect that your clutch is behaving the way it is because the clutch fork pivot has part-pierced the fork. If I'm right one day very soon the pedal will go to the floor and you will have no clutch.

Do you have trouble when changing gears, as if the clutch is not fully disengaging?

Start off with Discool's suggestions but don't be too surprised if it's the fork that is on it's way out, the good news is that they are cheap to buy new.

I have had this issue in the last few weeks, I did replace the whole clutch system but on completion also found that the slave cylinder had failed. Start with replacing the slave, and then work back.

Apologies for butting in but my D1 300tdi clutch has all its action in the last inch of pedal at the bottom, any ideas.

I have bled the fluid and the clutch is working fine, no difficulty in engaging gears etc. its just that all the action is right down by the floor.

I did note that while bleeding with an EZ-Bleed pipe, the pedal did not return without help but returned to how it was whgen the nipple was tightened.

Thanks

Dave

could be any of the above. Could also be clutch plate shredding/disintegrating. When you were practicing with yer trailer did ya go into low range to save riding the clutch?

Cant say that I did as never knew you were meant to do that

Im with the big lad, through similiar experiencing, sounds like your gonna be splitting the gearbox from the engine to replace the £10 clutch fork.

First time i towed with my disco i found my self at the bottom of quite a steep hill with no where to turn round had to reverse up hill over speed bumps while negotiating cars parked randomly on both sides of the road with doosle mondeo estate on my trailer, clutch started to suffer quite quickly, had a sudden thought does low ratio work in reverse?? well yes it does amazing i could have got out and walked beside it (if i walked slowly enough).
pulled up the whole hill at idle and a 90deg right turn about half way up.
Did it first time aswell, even got a couple off cheers from peeps that stopped to watch me feek it up and hit a car :D
