Hey there, I'm new to the site and have just picked up my first Range Rover, a 1997 4.6 HSE.

The stereo isn't working and all it does is display 'TUN ER90' in it's display when it's switched on. No combination of button presses seem to make any difference.

I've had a good search on here and on Google and not yet unearthed an answer as to whether the stereo needs binning or whether it can be reset and brought back to life.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Regards
Paul.

Ah sorry fella, I thought that they were all the same in the 1997 Range Rover model range.

It's the Clarion Diversity with CD changer in the boot. I think that's the PRC 7618 (PU-9836A) model from what I've seen online so far whilst investigating this.

Right, done some more poking about and it's actually showing TUN ER98 not 90 as I thought before.

When you press Mode to switch to CD changer it comes up with No Pack, though there is one in place.

This is purely a guess, I originally read this as TUNer ERror98, but isn't it possible it's just displaying the model level of tuner it has installed, i.e. TUNER 98 ?

Are there any CD's in the magazine and does the magazine eject OK ?

Brian ('99 DSE)

It could be possible I suppose. I know nothing about these set ups I'm just guessing it's an error as nothings working.

CD magazine is full and fully inserted. It ejects just fine also. Have tried with the disks label up in the pack and label down also. Nothing either way apart from stony silence and 'No Pack' displayed when the mode button is pressed in.

With or without disks in the cartridge and the cartridge in the autochanger TUN ER98 is always displayed on screen and 'No Pack' comes up when Mode is pressed.

Assuming you have the code for the radio, would it be worth disconnecting it from all power and leave for a while, reseat cables, turn on and you should be prompted for the code, enter code and see what happens

I have the code for the stereo so I'll give that a try this weekend and see what happens. Where's the fuse for the stereo, I'd like to pull that before I start pulling it apart.

OK - I'm not getting anywhere fast with this so it looks like I'm going to have to replace it.

Does anyone know of anywhere where I can pick up one of these units or does anyone have a 2nd hand unit with code they'd be willing to sell me? Been scouring eBay and not found anything suitable that would be available before the weekend.

Any ideas chaps?

Ideally I'd want something by the weekend at the latest as I've got a 300 mile drive with the kids and having no stereo is going to be a bind!!!

If you find one without the code, so long as you know the chassis number of the original host vehicle, any LR dealer should be able to give you the code.

BTW, not sure what you looked for on eBay, but I've just done a very quick search [range rover (clarion, stereo, radio)] and found what appear to be at least half a dozen of what may be suitable head units there (dependant upon whether you need the CD option or not), sample below:

Cheers for the reply, found all of those but nothing in my limited timescale!!

With regards to the repaireres I can't see them turning around a head unit and having to back to me by the weekend in honesty. I was looking at their advert over the weekend. Will give them a call on my lunchbreak though and see what they say.

In the mean time though I'm trying to track down a breaker or similar that might have one I can get delivered by Friday at the latest.

Any recommendations for breakers or just go via breakerlink, findapart etc from Google?

I have just bought a wiper motor assy for a P38 from ebay user rangeroverheaven, it arrived with me the next day in a 48"x12"x6" box (not small!).

Looking at what he sells on eBay, I would say that he is definitely a RR P38 breaker so it might be worth dropping him an email regarding a head unit.

Try Roverville UK, the're on here somewhere if you use the "search" function.Send my Diversity head unit to them on a thursday and it arrived back fully serviced on saturday morning. Well worth a try.

Hi, i know a guy in manchester that may have one and he will post it quite quick.
pm me if you want his number.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated, found one now via eBay that will be posted tomorrow :D
