Hi All
I've just replaced battery and starter motor on my 55 plate TD4.
Turned the key and nothing happened.
Ran a scan and I got the following message:
EWS Immobilisation malfunction (0x1DF5)
Followed the handbook (5 presses on lock button to re-pair). Cleared the error code and tried again but same issue returned.

Was the immobiliser active when the battery was replaced? I've heard of an active immobiliser failing when a new battery is connected. You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery again, to see if the problem goes away.

Hi there, when you replaced the starter did you disconnect the battery first? Just if any sparks flew from the starter live wire you may have blown fuse/s. Strange things can happen when the angry pixies are unleashed from a short circuit.

Cheers

Battery + battery tray removed before starting to give extra access to sm bolts.

Disconnected battery for 15 minutes and still no joy.
Disconnected for an extended session, put battery on charge and connected + & - terminals in car together as read that this performed a reset?
Connected it all back and nothing.
I've read that these bmw immobilisers can be a bit of a nightmare. 🤬

Video for clarity.

On other forums I’m reading another freelander owner with this fault code had to re write the dump file to the ecu and ews to make it start again. If you can’t do this then a new/used set of ecu and locks would sort it. Not ideal but should work.

I googled “freelander 0x1df5” was the first hit at the top on digital kaos.

Brilliant, do you know how I re write the dump file?

Not exactly as I just read through it quickly. Have a look here and see what I found.
