Troops,

As part of my undertaking to accessorise my Freebifter I've swapped the old basic steering wheel for a nice leather one. I was amazed at how easy it was and how I managed to do it with no help at all. Imagine my suprise when some dozy t@*t pulled out in front of me some 20 minutes later.
In traditional style I leapt on the horn and had an appropriate hand gesture ready when.....yep no horn!

So I need some help.

The old wheel had two wires going into the block connector, a blue one and a purple one, occupying points 1 and 3 if you like on the connector.

The new wheel has several wires of which the horn appear to be green and orange. If you trace these back they go into points 3 and 4 on the connector. 1 and 2 are taken up with the radio controls of which I have no use as I've taken the original stereo out.

So can anybody help me get the horn working, my idea is to cut the connector of the old wheel with a length of cable still attacthed. Then I plan to cut into the green and orange cables and connect them into the blue and purple. Then plug this connector in leaving the connector that came with the new wheel unplugged.
I hope this will work, my belief is that the airbag system works completely off the yellow cable that is totally seperate and unaffected by my thoughts.

Sorry I've gone on a bit but I'm looking for some practical advice from you all.

I want a nice leather steering wheel for my Hippo, the basic plastic one is crap. Haven't changed it over because I thought it would be a pain removing the airbag.
Sounds like IT IS a pain with the horn though.
Have you checked to see if the airbag works still? The dozy t@#t pulling out on you would have been the perfect time to check it ;)

Changing the wheel was a doddle, and indeed the airbag isn't an issue either, or wasn't with mine anyway. Basically once the two torque screws are removed either side of the wheel the whole airbag module comes out with just one little yellow connector in. Obviously make sure the ignition is off just in case it decides to deploy but I don't think there is anyway it would. I'm certain it works as when I reconnected it up the wrong way round the SRS light stayed on the dashboard, swapping the connector over sorted this. I'm just going out to try my little rewire, nothing ventured nothing gained and all that. Standby for an update....

It's PARP PARP and away. It worked like a dream. Both sides working. Not sure the purists would approve of what I've done but I won't tell anybody if you don't. Although I wouldn't class myself as an expert by any stretch of the imagination but if anybody needs advice on steering wheel changing I might be able to help, as long as it's not too technical!!!
