Hi, I'm new to this site and just wondered if it is possible to remove the steering wheel control for the stereo, it sounds like a bit of plastic has come loose in the one on my 2001 model and just wanted to get it out! Thanks

You should be able to gently unclip the uppermost of the two plastic shrouds which enclose the top of the steering column just below the steering wheel. Releasing the steering wheel height adjustment lever should make it easier. You may then be able to see where the rattle is coming from and carefully remove the item. It's vital that you don't probe around inside there with anything metallic because of the presence of live cables, airbag firing cables and the transponder coil for the immobiliser I would not advise further dismantling unless you really know what you are doing as there are some quite complex, expensive and potentially dangerous circuits in there. D..

I take it you mean radio controls on steering wheel? if so you need to remove the "drivers" air bag by removing 2 TORX bolts behind steering wheel "Spokes" either side of centre of wheel," REMOVE IGNITION KEY FIRST AND LEAVE FOR A FEW MINUTES!!! then carefully unplug Air Bag connector and store Air Bag Unit in in suitable metal cupboard ( telling you this because somebody is bound to pick me up on it. It should then be a case of removing I think it's 2 or 3 fixing screws and removing controls, but if you find the offending object inside s/wheel, you won't have to.

Hi, thanks for the replies, yes I do mean the stereo control, it sounds like small pieces of something is rattling about in there the odd time I full lock, but to be honest I would rather have it making a small noise than attempt to dismantle it and wreck something even more. Thanks for the help though. Sarah

It's not a difficult job to remove air bag as long as you go gently and carefully, I think some people tend to exaggerate the dangers of the explosive part of the unit, the reallity is not as bad as it sounds as long as you use care and make sure Ignition is off.
