Yesterday when I drove to work my steering felt absolutely fine, however 10 hours later I needed to use all of my strength just to turn the wheel only slightly making roundabouts nearly impossible to take!

This morning I wasn't sure how it was going to be but, as yesterday, the steering was incredibly heavy. There are very brief times when the steering isn't quite as heavy but within a matter of seconds it is again.

What could the problem be? :scratching_chin:

I took my Disco to a garage and as I suspected the pipe that carries the pas fluid from reservoir to steering is split.

Unfortunately the earliest it can be fixed is 5th Jan so what I'd like to know now is am I damaging the steering by driving with no fluid in the system?

I have been getting a spot of oil on the drive occasionally, lucky I traced it to the PAS system before the oil ran out, managed to top it up a few times until the garage could take it in for repair. TD5 Disco, 7 years old, 142k miles. Seems the pipes under the front bumper have rusted through! The car's in the garage today getting new PAS piles fitted.

On two seperate occasions my TD5 decided to let go of all her PAS fluid. 1st time the joint into the PAS pump, 2nd time the pipe on the steering box itself let go. Each time I was lucky, no signs, just let go as I pulled into the works car park. AA towed me to my independant, total bill R2600, ouch!

There is no fluid in it, so its simple, get the new part, take out the old one, put in the new part.

Fill system, bleed system, check for leaks... drive... check for leaks...
