Hi,

I recently swapped my old 200 disco engine with a better condition 200 defender engine. I noticed a lot of play in the PAS pump when installing the engine. The power steering worked fine when I drove it in the workshop before taking out the engine.

Once I finished the install I couldn't get the power steering to work. After driving it for a couple days the reservoir was frothing and bubbling a lot and chucking the oil out of the reservoir.

I figured the pump was leaking and drawing in air. I replaced the pump with a ‘working order’ second hand pump. Run everything up and still no power steering. The oil is now clear and the pump seems to be pumping ok. I have removed the pressure pipe from the box and run the engine and there is plenty of pressure.

I have removed all lines and blown through to check for blockages all ok. The wheels are free when jacked up I can move them left to right fairly easily, when pump is running there is no difference in the feel of the steering wheel.

I cant understand what is wrong, surely its not the box it has been sat for 3 months and thats it. I have another box from a friend to try tomorrow. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jamie
