Hi I have a problem which has just recently started with my 2011 Freelander 2 sd4 hse auto where I’m having to hold the start button pressed until the car will start, it no longer does anything if I just press once and release it like it’s supposed and used to has anyone had this or know of a solution to try

Try a hard reset first. Are you waiting for the system check to complete before pressing the start button? Not doing so causes all sorts of data errors, especially as the battery begins to age. It's always best to allow the system check to complete, then start the vehicle.

It’s had a new battery last month it will only start now by holding the button until the engine has started how do you do a hard reset ?

Nothing it turns the full ignition lights back off
It will do that if you don't press the clutch (manual box) or brake (auto box) but if you wait for the system to complete its check, press clutch or brake and press the start button again, it should start, as this is the recommended start procedure.
I start mine every time that way, as it prevents hundreds of codes being logged for no reason.

Yeah because like I say if I keep the button pressed down it will let it start as normal but you carnt release it untill it’s started fully otherwise it stops trying to start

How do you do the hard reset

A hard reset is removing the terminals from the battery, and holding the terminals together for 30 seconds. This clears down all the memories in all the modules in the vehicle.
You will need to set the clock and reset the windows afterwards, but it might work to fix the issue.
