Hi all. This may have been posted before but I am not technically minded & probably need much more basic help & advice please.

I have a Freelander 2 2.2 SD4 Dynamic 2014 that is having starting problems.
The issue is that it can take up to 20 times pressing the start/stop button before it will actually fire up & start & at other times it will start first or second time.
There seems to be plenty of life in the battery. I wondered if there could be a loose connection somewhere or if it is the starter motor?
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you so much 😊

What do you mean by 20 times pressing the button? The ECM will power the starter until the engine starts, or times out. What happens if you just press the start button? Are you allowing the system to boot before allowing it to start?

Hi. Thank you for your reply.

It varies when I press the start button. The dash lights always come on. Sometimes the battery light will show, sometimes it won't. Sometimes there will be a click, more often there is nothing.
Yes, I am allowing the system to boot.
If it doesn't start I will press the stop button & then try start again.
It took 5 attempts this morning to start it.

On what do you base this "plenty of life" value? Changing the battery would be a first step in my book.
:)

Allowing the system to boot is good.
It's odd that the battery light doesn't every time.
How old is the battery? These vehicles are very power hungry, and so require a new battery every 4 years or so.
I'd start by replacing the battery, as a failing battery will cause the engine to crank slowly, which reduces the fuel pressure and so th3 ability to start swiftly.
