OK, so I think my starter motor is starting to play up.

For a little while now it occasionally fails to restart. I.e. I turn the key and everything happens as per normal except the solenoid doesn’t seem to kick out. The batteries and earths are fine (recently split charged it with brand new batteries) the starter relay is new, and I even changed the glow plug timer relay as a precaution (even though this is a different circuit).

Paddocks seem to have a ‘smaller’ defender TD starter. Any thoughts on this?

I’m moving house next weekend, so really need the Landy (300TDi 1994 D90) to be reliable for that (I have some towing to do). Am thinking of getting a new starter now, so I have it ready in case is fails properly this week.

Any advice of what’s good and what to avoid would be welcome.

Snap! 1994 300 Tdi here to. Similr issue and after earths, battery checks etc swapped my starter and no probs since - just went for a err5009 - think it was from Bearmach (nothing fancy)

Where from and how much? Many of the normal Internet places aren't exactly saying what make the parts are. The oem ones seem to be about double the price of non oems. I'd rather go for a cheaper non oem if poss (money i svery tight right now), but don't want to get caught out with something that doesn't last very long.
