Hi all,
I'm in the process of working out why my Disco won't start! Due to issues with keys that won't turn I have already replaced the ignition barrel (very easy job) I have just taken the battery off and will have it checked today! I have also just taken the starter motor off, anyone who has done this job will know about "Satans Nut" but once you realise it's 15mm and not 13mm like the other 2 bolts! I found this out after about 1hr trying to get a 13 mm socket on it !!!!!!!!
Now I have the starter off I'm gonna get it checked today! If it's fubar I will get one fron island4x4 cause I think there the cheapest!
When I get on pc I will load a few photos

thats because its a nut not bolt ,and yes i hate that one check contacts in end of solenoid often worn sold on ebay for about £10 a kit

I have a feling that the selonoid is not the problem, but by the same token i will be getting it checked at a specialist this afternoon.
Also I think the battery may be at fault as it is likely that this is the original battery circa 10 yrs old.
I will try and attach 2 photos
Photo 1 shows anyone who doesn't know where the starter motor is.
And photo 2 is a close up of the wiring.

The 'Satans Nut' is at the other side of the starter motor and can be got at 2 ways.

1 - By having reasonably long arms you can reach up from the bottom and with 1 hand just about reach the nut.
2 - I also have it on good authority that it can be reached from the top should you have a socket set with half a dozen UJ (Universal Joint) sections to squeeze down the very small gap.
Infact i have even heard of someone squeezing their hand down !!!!! Verry Small Hands (can't be trusted) :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice..
I managed to sort this out all by my self so there....
Couple of photos of the reattached offending item and a greased up desk jockey finally finding his feet messing around in grease.

Thanks again guys
