i purchased a stainless steel exhaust from double s xhausts prob 3 years ago.fitted it after manafacturers rear bracket problems.
now i notice that the steel seems to be pitting or spoiling.
have i been ripped off with a mild steel exhaust?
it seems you have to watch what unscroupulous 4x4 online dealers send.
have i been mugged off or does stainless spoil?how do i tell?

also got a wierd noise coming from 5th gear deselerating at about 1500rpm.
sounds like a groaning.lasts few seconds.a bit like the usual noises but louder and longer.(if you know what i mean)
cheers

i would say give the dealer you bought the eggsauce off of a ring and tell them about the problem, most stainless systems come with a lifetime guarantee (if they are any good)
as for the queerbox probs i dunno change down sooner?

Put a magnet to it if it's SS shu'dnt stick to it if it does is M steel. Your whine coul'd be your taper bearings on your input gear on T box. take the PTO cover of put T box in N and pull the gear out have look . good luck

that all depends on the grade of steel used, some stainless steels do have magnetic properties as they still contain iron

During a recent rebuild on my Defender (galv chassis & bulkhead) I was going to fit a Double S exhaust, but found loads of negative reports about their products.

I decided to keep my standard exhaust instead.

Although heres a quote from their website..

"All of our systems are guaranteed for life - meaning that as long as you own the car and that periodic checks are undertaken on the system you will never have to buy another ..."

thanks.
i will check the exhaust.
i had a new transfer box fitted last summer.not cheap.
could hear a small whine noise (like the fan heater is on)and took it in garage.they said it was rear diff bearings.
i replaced diff.now less noise but still small whining and now the 5th gear problem.groaning.
never knew a owning a 200tdi could be so painfull and expensive.
still love it tho and i suppose it will soon be like new.

good luck with that, a lifetime warranty generally will only be honoured if you have it checked over once a year at an authorised place. My powerflow exhaust has the same guarantee. And as youve had the system 3 years they are going to try and wriggle out of helping
