I haven't trawled thru all of the 200tdi section but haven't been able to find any reference to a really squeeky heater fan. Does anybody know how to cure it so that it doesn't sound like fingernails down a blackboard? I need to sort it pretty quick before I go completely bonkers!

if its a 200tdi disco its apparently a day to take the whole dashboard apart to get the fan out to replace it.
mine eventually stopped working so ive got a fan sat on top of the dash plugged into the cigar lighter to demist the screen ... still get some hot air out the heater when moving but not a lot.

if it gets chilly might have to try one of these

Thanks for taking the time to post the links for ebay , the fan looks lie a good idea.

DON'T use WD40 ...

it cleans and displaces water ... it is not a lubricant

TT spray or 3 in 1 are fine ...

ours drove us bonkers and after 3 years even spraying it didn't work ...

so we bought a replacement on eblag and spent a weekend changing it ...

yes the whole dash has to come out, so any other jobs can be done too :D

Make a cheat sheet ...for wiring connections ...bits of masking tape with where it came from jotted on it ...

Take photos wivs yer phone ... makes it great if your not sure of a cable route ...

LRM magazine were running an article (started in the Dec 2009 issue) on exactly this job, wivs pics ...

If you do take yours out, make sure the controls are set properly when it goes back, coz the 'flappy' bits are a pain to sort out.

must be possible to rig one of the cigar lighter fans above the passenger footwell so it blows air over the existing heater matrix for the winter.....just got to find where the existing fan set up pulls air in when its set to recirculate

I was in Defender mode, can you not get to it via the air intake under the bonnet.

Dont think so. its been a while since I did one but the motor part fits right up under the dash cover which is why you need to strip out the dash to get to the unit.
