Hi all,
im going mad trying to get my spotlamps working, only had the car a week, the fella at the garage checked the car out said everything s fine but the spots needed a new switch to get them going.New switch fitted still no good.took the front off the spots and tried external power source worked fine. The little diode on the switch barely lights up.:( They were factory fitted by L/R so does anybody know the wiring diagram, as the haynes manual does not show spots fitted, you all have far more know how than me, been looking at the forum for ages, hope someone can help
kind regards to all 633 Gunner

welcome to LZ, drop a line in new members forum :)

try this : spot lamps

If they work with a live feed straight from the battey, then it might be the relay, you need to trace the wires back, check the relay is clicking when press switch. if not, replace it, less than a fiver in any auto shop.

Spot lights? are they not controlled by flasher too as well as switch?

we have a fair few light on our landys so any questions just reply back mate

Thanks for the info, ive tried all combinations with the switches still no go,ive tried chasing the wire back but lose it under the fuse box,i assume it could be with the mainbeam fuse,as to the relay cant find one for that wiring but will keep on looking,im trying to find a diagram of how L/R would fit them at the factory just to see where the wiring goes,it,ll be a long night with lots of coffee, thanks for the advice great forum

Hi 633Gunner, if you are referring to the driving lamps which are normally fitted on top of the bumper or on an Abar, then the wiring should already be ALL in place and they DO NOT need an extra switch.

They are wired to go on with main beam and flash, so do not have any other switches to make them work.

When the ones on my wifes tdi 200 didn't work I tracked it down to a relay, next to a fuse box in the engine bay. It had been disconnected and when I reconnected it the spots stayed on all the time (thats why it had been disconnected!!), so I replaced it with a new one and Bob is your mums new "friend"

On my '98 Tdi300, I found black plugs underneath the radiator, when I put a meter on them whilst someone operated the headlight switch, I had power on mainbeam and flash. Get underneath the car and have a butchers.

So now my plan is to buy some spots and connect them into these plugs and, hopefully the jobs a good'un ;) :D

Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave,
the switch was fitted by L/R it has a mainbeam headlight on it and also a number2 and is situated under the switches for the fog lights i assume this is to make the spots work but not sure if they are to be in unison with the main beam or on their own,i,ve tried lots of combinations but no luvk. I will keep on trying though many thanks for the answer

Hi 633, I hear what you say, have not come across that before on the various 300's that I've looked at/worked on but hey, there's always something new and different in the exciting:)confused: ) world of Land Rover.

Just out of interest, what model and year do you have? Sorry 633, I've just looked at your profile and it's a Td5 - I'll go and sit in the corner, can someone pass me the hat!!

Good luck

Dave

Thanks Dave,if anyone else has any information on the spotlights on a 2001 discovery, please let me know, does the switch have to be on and then the headlight mainbeam takes over,i,ll just keep on plugging away they wont beat me (i hope) all advice greatly received
many thanks 633

Hi 633,
i've got a 2001 td5 with factory fitted spots.
This is what i do, turn main head lamps on then press spot lamp switch,
now when you use fullbeam they should come on!!! ( well mine do )

Thanks RSM,
tried what you said but they still dont work, although the little diode on the switch and the mainbeam pic on the switch now light up. could be a bad earth or loose wire somewhere,i,ll keep on trying two spots are not going to beat me(yet)
many thanks 633
