had the landy up to 60-65 before no problem in a bit of a hury tonight...to metro centre so floored it it raced to 68-70 then started to react ( the same way as when you slow to 5mph in top) slowed back to 60 no problem
any ideas
its ex raf.. any chance its had a limit set on it

well not really, what engine have you got in it, not that it makes a lot of difference, a 2.5 with or without turbo will max out at about 70..i can sit at 65 all day comfortably but rarely, depending on outside temp, road conditions etc, can get over 70mph and it really drinks the diesel then...and for 5mph it aint worth thrashing it...

The fact you says its spluttering sounds like fuel starvation, lift pump maybe.

Yes if its a 2.5 then it will max out at about 70 but it wouldn't splutter, it would just stop going any faster.

Fuel filter yes, if its blocked it will have reduced the GPH of the system and it may no longer cope with the diesel through put being asked of it at 70mph.

The air filter again would just restrict it, it wouldn't really cause it to splutter, this sounds 100% fuel related.

My ex army 2.5 n/a has been up to 73 mph for a few seconds but you soon back of as the engine is at its absolute limit, if you keep at 70 for sustained periods it will only do damage, 65 is only 5 mph slower and these engines will cope with that all day long.
