hi mates ...i need some input on how to install an extra battery and split charger coz mine sometimes seems like not enough crank power eventhough newly changed the batt...so i thought to solve the problem just add in another battery..what u guys think?...any ideas, recommendation, info and pictures of the double battery layout of your disco will be highly appreciated.thanks a lot mates.

Hi

no help but, if it wont crank on a fully charged battery, it sounds more like you have a bad earth or connection somewhere in the line, my 300 will turn over on a nearly dead battery and positively whips round on a full one!

Split-charge is generally used so you can have one battery for the vehicle and one for winches, fridges, flood lights etc.

oic thanks dave, i tot they were used to start up engine...so meaning to say they were never meant for engine rite ?..in that case maybe i will cancel my plan to put another batt...

Well you 'can' fit another battery in parallel but its not recommended. You can use a split battery to start your car but will need jumper cables as when using another cars' battery. The split-charge system stops the current flowing from the split battery back to the main battery.

I would first check and clean all of your earth connections etc as well as the engine earth strap.

Do not fit two batteries in parallel. It is a poor electrical circuit and the weaker battery will damage the stronger one as it will be constantly trying to drain it. Potentially with an explosion. That is why the batteries are isolated unless they are being charged. It is possible, but involves heavy duty cabling capable of taking up to 800 amps and sophisticated electronics to achieve it.

Yeah you have a battery or other electrical starting problem - another battery won't solve it, fix the problem you have with the existing standard stuff.
