Speedo sender in the T-Box

Hey guys. I am changing my Tbox from a 1.2 to a 1.4. The 1.4 came out of an old defender so have the cable driven sender. I need to replace it with my electronic sender.

I cannot for the life of me get the old sender out. It will NOT budge at all. I've tried gently hammering a screw driver under the lip that surrounds it to loosen it off, working my way round. About a 1/4 of the lip chipped off doing this so i dont wanna do that any more. Any advice??

Have you un-done the Allen key holding it on?

if its stuck and some really get stuck you have to remove speedo housing and prise it out from the back some i have had to break out from behind but ive got a lot of speedos so doesnt matter ,if gasket fitted to rear housing it will need one putting back if not only use silicone or similar as it will effect diff shimming

There is a Allen key bolt holding it on, and very hard to get to!!
Stupid design.

Took out the 5 or 6 17mm bolts holding drum assembly to the box and pushed it out from the inside. very stupid design. The Allen key screw was already out it was just wedged :-(

I know this too well as I don't have a speedo as you can't get a manual cable to fit in the elec drive!!!!

i assume you'll have to fit your old transfer box or get a transfer box out of a 200tdi disco then ryan? bit of a bummer!

Will have to do something as having to use a Tom Tom as a spedo is starting to **** me off!
At least it don't lie to you like the rest of the guages

Why dont you just get a new cable/sender?

It's a 1988 defender so has very little electrics working!
And a electronic speedo is defently not on a fender of this year!!
And like I said the square drive from a manual cable is too big to fit in for the elec one.

I've just yanked out the housing and sender unit from an 88 defender t box. If I don't need it when I transfer it all over. You want it?

Its a bit chipped from trying to get it out. But o rings are in tact

swapping cast speedo housing and gear is easy job once removed but dont swap aluminum output housing between boxes as they are machined to fit shimming of indivual transfer box diffs ,black speedo gear for electric transducer is smaller square drive than cable speedos which are all the same drive as is worm gear in the box,if any body needs one ive got alot as dont send them with recon boxes

Bit confused?!?!
Are you saying you have got a spedo cable that will fit?
Or are you saying you have the different drive to fit to my T-BOX?

saying that all except electronic black speedo are all the same fitting for cable ,and that i have alot of both cable and electronic ones if someone needs one they if stuck in ali housing break and rather than buy new they could have one ive got rather than me throw them away

Sible I have a speedo gear and speedo cast support with the correct square to fit your original speedo cable. should pop out and replaced quite easily unless your unlucky like the OP.

and like James said I think most of the cables were the same size square tbh.

quite often the gear breaks and one flat of the drive either breaks out or gets crushed in preventing you fitting the speedo cable

I knew they were different sizes but had no idea you could change them??
