I have a freelander 2003. The speakers all of a sudden lost the bass. The tweeters are the only ones that are working. I suspect that the speaker crossover might be faulting but I have no idea where it's located. Since all four woofers are not working I'm thinking that if there is a crossover it is centrally located or maybe a fuse for it. Can anyone help?

Thanks

It sounds like the tweeters are the only ones working. I have a woofer and a tweeter for each door.

Thanks for replying.

Well, I installed a Sony BT2500 and the results are the same. I should have mentioned thie earlier...

a quick squint at the heinz manwell reveals that each speaker and tweeter pair share a pair of cables back to the head unit. Thus front left speaker and tweeter share one pair of cables, and are connected in parallel. The crossover may only take the form of a capacitor or two soldered to the back of the tweeter. For all four to fail would seem unlikely, unless your new head unit fed something bad up them ?

Depending on your version of freelander (engine/trim), there may not be tweeters in the back, only in the front.

Try refitting the original head unit if you can and go from there. If you have a moving needle multimeter, you might be able to pick up a voltage on the back of the tweeter. Very unlikely you'd pick it up with a digital multimeter though, as it moves too fast.
