Haha was thinking about that the other day, seeing as we turned right at Corwen crossroads we should have popped back to the river for a rinse!!

Actually Mark what you see there is half of the original Lucas MAF, the silver part which connects to the airbox, and then the passivated part is a Megasquirt-V8.co.uk unit which serves to replace the working part of the MAF with a straight tube, but it has the correct shaped plate welded to it so that you can bolt to the original MAF airbox mounting and it also has a boss welded in to take the IAT sensor.

This is not necessary unless you want to use your factory airbox, Nige also sells a simple pipe or you could mount you sensor in your snorkel etc, this avoids heatsoak but leaves is slightly vulnerable.

Yea I saw it on nige's site, looks interesting. Only question will it make any difference on a non ms lump?

LOL, perhaps we should have, just found the rear trailing arm brackets rusted through on one side of the bracket on both sides of the axle - could have been interesting if they had both let go! Anyway, ordered replacements from YRM so guess what I'm doing next Saturday?

Must be something about that Wales run Kev, I lost half a trailing arm bracket on the drivers side of the axle on that run last year, couldn't believe it when I got back with one half of the bracket gone, you were double lucky!!

Good luck getting them straight, I guess if you park the car and chock the wheels you could bolt the brackets to the arms and offer them up to the axle and weld them on?

Or are you going to do it more scientifically?

I bought a new rear axle casing because I had previously welded on a spring mount wonky, a damper mount was Swiss cheese and the diff pan was slightly porous, so i decided to give up with it!!

Mark, have you been smoking larger than normal amounts of crack?!

The 14CUX system needs a MAF! We only remove the MAF and replace it with this larger bore adaptor when fitting MS!

In case you haven't quite grasped, 14CUX uses Mass Air Flow Sensor, Coolant Temp Sensor, Fuel Temp Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor;

Whereas MS uses Inlet Air Temp, Manifold Absolute Pressure, CTS and TPS

Thus, when fitting MS you can remove any sensor not used, ie MAF and FTS

Ohhhh I must have read it wrong!

So

I fitted a new starter motor the other day, basic Chineso cheapo unit from Euro Car Parts, similar price to what I paid for my last one a couple of years ago.

Tend to get around 2 years or so out of an offroad starter, rebuild them every few months or so during that period I guess.

Anyway so fitted it, very nice, went to test it? Dead.

Hmmm.

Turns out my ignition switch died. There and then!

New old stock unit on eBay for fine price of £20, genuine quality, aftermarket price, well chuffed. Lucky I guess!

Also went up to Parkwood for the LRO mag shoot today, stupid me forgot to get any pics I was so busy telling Mark Saville the back story.

Took 3 hours to complete the shoot, was fun! Anyone fancy pretending to be a journalist? Free offroading!

As in, let onto the site for free? Could get a mate to pretend they are doing an article for piston heads etc? Just needs somebody with a decent SLR camera taking pics really.

Yeah I mean apart from plenty of exchanged emails and blatently looking like we were taking pictures not off roading for the sake of it, it was cool to be there when there was nobody about, just a few enduro bikes!

Admittedly it rekindled my flame for the place but I think I'll wait til the big meet in November, I don't wana get too muddy just yet, CBA cleaning it after pnp!!

Whats this cleaning thing you talk of?

It's where you sort of put water on the car in great enough amounts that it softens and removes mud whilst it runs off the car.

It's a right effort!

So, got back from the mag shoot and soon after one of my batteries went flat.

Very odd I thought after a long motorway run.

Charged it up, flat again, charged it up, flat AGAIN.

Hmmm, could be a drain issue I thought but could be a dead battery.

Easy option: grabbed the booster pack we have here at work and disconnected battery and connected booster pack instead, battery stayed up all day/night

So, rummaged in my brains and remembered a guy selling Optima batteries on here.

Found the thread, guy was in Leeds, great! Luckily I had a mate working in Leeds that weekend, super great!

The Optimas were more expensive than I needed to spend, could have got away with a 60 quid job to replace the dead battery but I thought I should probably take the opportunity to buy Optimas at this great price, approx half price tbh, so I ordered a Red Top for starter and Yellow Top for my main battery.

I would probably only regret it if I ever needed to replace my starter battery in future and Marc had sold all of his Optimas, whereas now I hope to have many years of huge power availability.

iv got two of the redtops from Marc still got one to fit as my 2nd battery but need to buy the cabling, good choice and in winter I noticed a BIG difference for start up
