So i've been a member of the forum for a while now, i've posted a fair bit, i've given some people some help, and i've taken LOADS of help from others :eek: but i've never posted up any pics of what i've been working on since January!

So, i took a few shots at the weekend to sort that out.

Brief spec is:

'92 3.5 V8 5 Door 7 Seat Twin Sunroof.
118,000 miles.
Engine stock, apart from sealed and vented distributor, and smaller centre silencer/no rear silencer.
Transmission stock, apart from cross drilled input gear.
Twin ARB air lockers.
3" lift, on Bearmach and Procomp.
Full polybush.
Rebuilt axles, new seals/bearings throughout.
Electric fans/HD 4 row radiator.
Front arches & sills replaced, various other welding. (Boot floor patched up, realistcally needs replacing but cba)

Etc etc etc, you can see most of it anyway! :D

I'm looking forward to seeing some comments!

nice disco there mate, i think i may have seen you knocking about as i only live in wythenshawe, might have been at tescos ( baguley ) as we sometimes go there if not shopping at asda ( wythenshawe ) ;)

bumper was 300 quid mate, from the same lad who made the rocksliders. guy named carl in wigan! yeah it fits to the original mounts and comes with a bracket for the centre recovery point that fits through the towball holes in the chassis crossmember. the bolt spacing in the bumper is same as nato hitch ;)

yeah man course it leaks! well, the axles etc dont but the engine leaks a LOT from the rear main and it leaks a little from the front main. it also leaks a bit from the valley gasket and a little from the rocker covers maybe. also leaks reasonably well from the sump gasket.

all gaskets are new and the rear main was replaced last year. lol :D

urm yeah quite possibly! i sometimes pop into tesco baguley for supplies before i go laning :)

is your disco modified? i was parked near a modded blue disco last time i went to tesco baguley...

now for the somewhat sycophantic bit, i am going to use yours as inspiration for mine :eek:

but Im hoping to do the chequer and some of the other mods you have too, loving the wheels and tyres also, Im an ex Manchester lad myself, maybe its a northern thing???

the paint, the chequer, possibly the wheels and tyres, better snorkel, and if money allows the lockers too, keep up the good work and keep posting, its been a very inspiring thread,

Go for it mate, my disco is tried and tested so you know it works, less guessing for yourself! :D

Gimme a shout if you want any advice...

But yeah no doubt this threa will continue. Done that photoshoot/interview for the magazine this morning cos it's pretty much done now, but I do need to fit an adjustable panhard rod ideally, and I'd like to fit hydro-assist to the steering, but I'm into £400 quid for that job which is not an amount I have in my pocket most days! :D

pah, i love the old 200s, theyre so funky in Sonar Blue and Bahama Beige compared to the boring jap style grey 300s.

i do like old skool though. luckily the 200 is an altogether better car than a 300 so it's all good :D
 
No they upgraded it, made some refinements, but in doing so they made it more complicated and thus harder to repair!

For instance, 3.5 v8 pretty bombproof but not particularly wild performer and very old skool touches (multi v belts, 20w50 oil etc) BUT it keeps on chuggin.

3.9 gives more power, simpler belt arrangement, is happy with modern oil grades BUT lo and behold they slip liners like theres no tomorrow. Head gaskets the same.

Same applies for the 200tdi vs 300tdi argument also.

I prefer the 200 shape because it was built well, does the job and is ultra simple. The 300 is a nicer car to drive due to refinements but it is guaranteed to go wrong more often. I wouldn't fancy doing what I do in mine with a problem prone 300 shape.

not exactly true 3.9 will run as well on same oil as 3.5 ,there basically same engine share mostly the same parts except 200 thou wider bores liners dont slip, aluminum bore behind liner cracks 300 axles are stronger,as is t/box,300 range had the brilliance of fitting as many parts as possible across the range ie defender disco and rrc all use the same wheel bearing hub axle cases ,engine in the form of 300 tdi etc
 
me again after reading your thread throughly I seen that u took the rear wing quartet off and repair mm interesting how did u manage that ? I want to do the same on mine. 2 reasons 1 rust at the top of the rear pillar boot door and the rear wing is dented reversed to lamppost!
 
Paint is brushed on. Roller leaves lots of little bubbles in paint so was unsuitable.

Rear quarter is removed by first removing rear bumper and interior trims, push the side window out then find all the screws and bolts securing it on, then spend the best part of half an hour with a knife, various large screwdrivers and a hot air gun heating up and cutting through the sealant and seam sealer that secures the panel. It is a very awkward job, but makes rust repairs a lot easier.

Chequerplate floor is aluminium so is riveted to the steel floor side panels. A healthy bead of sealant was run round the floor aperture before dropping it in. God help me if I ever need to get it out again!
