I have seen so many freelanders STUCK in mud and snow. I think defenders are the best lr so far they can go so much more far then a freelander
The 90 is only better off road because it has taller tyres!! On the road you might as well be driving a tractor
The 4X4 system does the same job as the Freelander only it's not automatic!! The L200 will get stuck before the Freelander

you'll be a bit cramped sleeping in a 90.
I've done it and it int easy unless ya have the bed at bulkhead height and something extended intoi the dash area.FOOL !!!!! the lecctrics would have been fooked and the engine would have boiled over cos of all the water running down hill.
It wunt get stuck cos the driver wunt be daft enuff to go in there int furst place, silly

The Freelanders TC would have reduced the chance of the tyres digging big holes below them so it might not get so stuck
In conditions like that you need proper cross axle lockers that LR don't seem to fit!!Freelander better offroad than a Defender? Im no expert but........................................BULL****.

Initially I had some difficulty in working out what must have happened in this pic.
I can only conclude that the nearside wheels fell off and the jolt broke the nearside suspension.
Most unfortunate accident.
This kind of thing is best avoided - by someone walking in front and using a big stick to check for holes as wheels can fall off when they enter such holes.
Personally I've gone through much deeper water than that and never found any of these big holes. Just luck I suppose.
Probably better if the doors do fall off - instead of the wheels - as then you can put them in the back and drive home to fix them on again.

Crombie, your FL doesn't have a functioning 4x4 system. I'm curious to know if you have driven it off road when everything is working? Once you have, come and tell me it's useless with a stright face.
For pete's sake everyone the Freelander int a 90, nothing is a 90 other than a 90, saying the Freelander is better than a 90 off road is plain false. But they are better in other ways depending on your individual tastes and requirements. The 90 my be the "best" but that doesn't automatically render everything else useess, the Freelander (1 and 2) will run circles around almost any other compact SUV both on road and off road. Nobody here even knows what the true torque split is back and front - bottom line there is just way too much misinformation and plain spiteful bull**** about the Freelander. Until you've taken it apart and rebuilt one then driven it over a serious off road course; don't believe so much as a pilchard of what other people say here. Make up your own minds when you have all the facts.

OP, there is no snorkel that's easy to get hold of. If you look at my Accessories thread, you will see that myself and Diesel Do are trying to design a few bits for Freelanders, including a raised air intake. Real life will get in the way buit we hope to get there one day.

The problem most of us have is that we inherit our hippo's from a long line of tossers and clueless yummy-mummies who've never looked after it worth a damn. When the transmission has been reconditioned and is then taken care of it works fine. More than fine actually, it's much clevererer than people here think. Well not everyone .i've driven mine in all weathers over most terrain but wouldn't have even gone through that mud trap. A freelander is best in it's class for a reason (and that class isn't the same as a defender)
he was unlucky to have gone off the edge, the vehicle to do that stuff in is a defender though.
