Hi all went to opem my discovery after work today to find my key had snapped off. Not sure when or how.
I only have the 1 key with my car. The petrol cap key is slightly different but does allow me to lock/unlock car but not the ignition.
Is the barrell easy to change? is there an immobilisor or anything?
I'ts a 1994 on M plate 300 tdi.
Can I risk a screwdriver to temporarily get me mobile?

The immobiliser is taken care of by the fob not the key or the ignition lock, so it's an easy and relatively cheap job to buy another lock and fit it.

if you have both halves of the key you can use em to get another key cut.

Are you sure?
I thought the key and the fob both set and unset the alarm and immobiliser and operate the central locking. I thought the difference was that if you set it using the key then it doesn't arm the sensor that detects movement, but does arm the door and bonnet switches and the immboliser.
However, I'm away from home with no manuals to check

theBiglad's right but just using the key doesn't fully arm the alarm, I think.

Just had the same thing happen, key snapped off in door lock....made refueling a challenge I can tell you.

So I evenutally visited my local dealer with my V5 document and they cut it for me there and then. Cost £23.50 (check they have an appropriate blank they can cut first)

And yes they are long vulnerable keys and perhaps the cold weather is making them brittle.

Big thanks to stickybackbob :) got it sorted.
As for the immobilisor mine seems to work off the door mechanism only???

Lock with key light on dash flashes like wise when unlocking.

Still back on the road thats the main thing :)

Cheers for all the help.

what does the key look like ?

i dont think my eyes are original land drover ones, im not sure , but they look quite old, id like a new set cut

how much was the blank key to buy without cutting ? maybe cheaper to buy blank key there and get it cut at a normal place , or can you buy a blank land drover key anywwhere else ?

I think the Dealer said it was about a tenner for the blank. They are normal keys for a disco I assume, black plastic bit at the end of a long slim key

For the door and fuel flap I used the reg number to get a key cut without using the original as a copy but I will have to get a blank and use the ignition key to get a straight copy as the ignition key is not original......if that makes sense.

The Dealer has blanks that I assume you can buy and get him to copy your key....cost all up was £25 for me
